about

A holiday tradition since 2009: Eclectic and unusual arrangements of holiday favorites.

Usually I manage 7-9 tracks, but due to the recent birth of my daughter June (who appears on the first track!) I found it prudent to set my sights a bit lower - so here is a Beckstrom Holiday Extravaganza EP.

From all of us here at the Beckstrom home, we wish you the happiest of holidays!

EP NOTES

Rockin' Around the Xmas Tree - Mariachi-Norteño regional Mexican music meets musique concrete; acoustic guitars, ridiculous wordless vocals, delay feedback, and sampled sounds of an infant crying. (Spoiler alert: it's the infant that lives at my house)

I've Got My Love to Keep Me Warm - A dark tech-house treatment of a classic. Squelching synthesizers, cycling drum machines, vocoders, holiday cheer.

RunRunRunRunRunRudolph! - Math rock meets hip-hop meets Chuck Berry. Strange and fast time signatures change wildly while samples of Chuck Berry ride on top, telling us something or other about Rudolph.

Christmas (Baby Please Come Home) - A Tim Hecker-style ambient arrangement/remix of the Mariah Carey classic. I sampled the original, used software to slow it down to 1/8th the speed, then covered it in washes of other samples, synthesizers, and distortion. Can you hear Mariah in there?
